Pay Ranges vs. Pay Raises

A study of how politics works
by
David G. Fago

There is one thing local, state, and national governements in this country have...and that is time. As Mick Jagger sings, "Time is on my side."

This is how government works:
1) We can't just out right give people a big raise.
2) We have to plan for the future of big raises.
3) How can we plan for the future of big raises for all of our cronies?
4) I know...let's set up "pay ranges". Sure some of the intelligent folks will yell for a few moments, but then it will subside.
5) Many months go by, and guess what...It is time for the pay raises. A quote from a future politician in charge: "Joe Fabeetz (City Director of Flower, Vegetation, and Stray Animal Grooming Services) deserves to get that $10,000 raise. After all, he only makes $80,000 per year, and for his poisition he has a salary grade of up to 120,000. After all we are not maxing it out."

You see....it is just like anything else governments do. Time makes these things easier to stomach for us. These pay ranges will sit and stew for a while, but don't fret...those guys will start to get their raises. This is why we need to raise our voice about it now. Not when the raises come:

Just like Gun Control:
1) First we ban all assault rifles
2) 2nd, we ban rifles in general.
3) 3rd we ban "dangerous hand guns"
4) 4th Now all guns are banned completely
5) 5th, we round up all the Homosexuals, minorities, Jews, Gypsies, Mentally Handicapped, and political enemies. Put them in death camps, and try like hell to kill them all.
6) Then we try to conquer the world, and kill all the "less than humans".

Governments use time to make things palatable for the "everyday good citizens".

Hitler was labeled by his challengers as a nut job who was not very important. He won an election with 35% of the vote (garnering more votes than his 17 challengers...another reason why the Electoral College is a great thing). Then he spewed his hatred, rounded up the guns, controlled the press, and then started to limit the rights of people eventually killing them.
His policies did not take place over night. No...he spewed his hatred in the 20's, came into power in 1933, was Time magazine's "Man of the year", and proceeded to murder millions of people by the end of 1945.

Time was on his side, and it took a great nation like the U.S. to sacrifice an entire generation of great heroic young men to stop him.

So if you want to sit around and say..."They are only pay ranges, not pay raises"...think a little bit more about the future, and re-evaluate your position.

More to come...Dave
